JEANNIE'S BIOGRAPHY

Jeannie began practicing Yoga in 1974 at the Victoria YMCA. The following year she was blessed by meeting her first teacher, Swami Sivananda Radha. Swami Radha was trained under the late Swami Sivananda Saraswati of Rishikesh, India. Swami Radha was Jeannie’s inspiration to make Yoga a way of life and in 1975 Jeannie began her teaching career.

In the late seventies Jeannie was introduced to the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar and has had the opportunity over the years to work with many of Mr. Iyengar's senior teachers.  Although not an Iyengar teacher, Jeannie has incorporated these teachings into her own unique style.

In 1984 she took an intensive teacher training program at Yasodhara Ashram under the direction of Swami Radha that included: the Kundalini System, hatha yoga, mind & meditation, dreams, the Divine Light Invocation, mantra and symbolism.

In the late 90s Jeannie met her current teacher Gangaji of Novato, California.  Gangaji follows in the lineage of Sri HWL Poonjaji and Sri Ramana Maharshi.  Jeannie has been inspired to deepen her commitment to Yoga and her own personal search for Truth.

Jeannie continues her training through classes and workshops with other teachers including: Gay Meaghley, Lynn Wylie, Felicity Green, Mary Paffard, Rodney Yee, Dona Holeman and Judith Lasiter.

In recent years Jeannie has been teaching public classes full-time in Whitehorse. Of special interest to her is the use of therapeutic yoga, breathwork and meditation for people working with chronic health concerns and life changing circumstances. This work is done privately on an individual basis.

Jeannie’s balanced style of Yoga focuses on the whole person and incorporates breathwork, yoga asana, relaxation,  meditation and self inquiry into her teaching.
